Departmental History

The Department of Pathology was established on 28th November 1998. The first Lecturer and Head of department was Dr. Aye Aye Khin. She served from 4.11.1998 to 9.5.2000. Dr. Cho Cho Myint was appointed as Head of Department from 31.12.2001 to 21.5.2004. Dr. Mya Mya Win was also appointed as Head of the Department from 21.5.2004 to 15.6.2015. Now, Dr. Myat Malar Shwe is designated as Head of the Department since 17.8.2015.

 

Departmental Objectives

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

  1. explain pathological basis of diseases with emphasis on common diseases prevalent in Myanmar
  2. collect the samples and specimens for laboratory investigations
  3. discuss the haematological disorders common in Myanmar and their preventive measures
  4. perform certain basic laboratory procedures
  5. interpret the laboratory findings with accurate diagnosis

Course Description

General pathology such as cell injury and cell death, cellular adaptation, inflammation and repair, haemodynamic changes, neoplasia and diseases of immunity; common haematological disorders in Myanmar; aetiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations and laboratory diagnosis of common clinical conditions including cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, urinary, nervous, male and female reproductive, endocrine and lymphoreticular systems ,and diseases of breast, bone and joint.
