Departmental History
The Department of Mental Health Nursing was founded as a teaching department since the University of Nursing, Mandalay had been established on 28th November, 1998. It was initially run by Daw Khin Win Cho (Tutor), and handed over by Daw Than Aye (Assistant Lecturer) in January, 2000. Professor U Mehn Pho Nyein was appointed as a very first Professor/Head from October, 2000 to March, 2004, took over by Professor Daw Than Than Swe (2004-2009), Professor Dr. Tin Tin Kyaw (2009-2018) and Professor Daw Nang Awng (2018-2020). Dr. Moe Thida (Associate Professor/Head) has led the department since August, 2020. Currently, the head and 18 faculty members are running the departmental activities to offer the undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Behavioral Sciences and Mental Health Nursing.
Departmental Objectives
The department aims to offer the undergraduate and postgraduate courses to nursing students to be able to acquire knowledge, skills, and attitude of mental health nursing with application of nursing process in mental health care settings including clinical and community settings. As an additional objective, it also aims to offer undergraduate courses to the nurses to become specialized in mental health nursing and Eye, Ear, Nose, Throat, Head and Neck Nursing.
