Departmental History

Department of Adult Health Nursing was developed on 28th November, 1998 since the University of Nursing, Mandalay was established. At that time, Daw Mya Mya Nyo, tutor, led the Department. Then, Daw M. Nang Kham was appointed as Assistant lecturer and served from 23-2-1999 to 30-11-1999. After that, Daw Htwe Htwe Nyunt, Assistant Lecturer led the department from 21-4-2000 to 26-2-2003.

The first professor and Head of the department was Daw Khin Hla Shwe and she served from 16-10-2000 to 14-1-2004. Lecturer and Head U Mehn Sein Ti served from15-3-2004 to 20-4-2005. Daw Htwe Htwe Nyunt served as Lecturer and Head of the department from 17-8-2005 to 25. 6.2008. Then, she became Associate Professor and Head of the department served at the department unitl 2011.

Professor Daw Khin Mar Kyi took the responsibilities of head of the department from 2011 to 2013. After that, Professor and Head, Daw Kahkri Hkawn Nu served from 2013 to 2016.  Then, Professor and Head, Daw Aye Paing served from March 2016 to July 2020. At present, Dr. Yin Mar Han is working as Associate Professor and Head of the department since 20.8.2020.

Departmental Objectives

To provide the learners about knowledge, skill and attitude for providing nursing care for the adult and the aged with medical/ surgical problems and cardiovascular, nephrologic, gastroenterologic and orthopedics problems in various health care settings by utilizing the concepts and principles of Adult Health Nursing and Nursing Process. Specifically, the students will be able to:

  1. Describe the definition, etiology, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestation, diagnostic and therapeutic measures and health education for common and complex health problems of adult and aged including trauma and emergencies, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases
  2. Identify actual and potential health problems and nursing care for common and complex health problems of adult and aged including trauma and emergencies, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases
  3. Develop a nursing care plan based on the identified nursing care for common and complex health problems of adult and aged including trauma and emergencies, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases
  4. Provide holistic and client centered care according to the developed nursing care plan with ethical and legal consideration for common and complex health problems of adult and aged including trauma and emergencies, communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases
  5. Apply scientific concepts and principles in preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative nursing care for adult and aged
  6. Demonstrate professional and ethical behavior in all relationships with clients and families, and other members of the health care team.
  7. Provide emotional support to adult/aged and family; and assist the terminally ill for comfortable and dignified death as possible.

  2. Record and report relevant aspect of care provided using systematic methods of documentation
